Jonathan Eaton Dirgy banjo beats this obvious ode to dying. A few happy moments. Simply delightful tunes. Beers' body of work is as prolific as they come lately. This album clearly stands out. Just great work. Choosing a favorite is impossible so I chose "Further Down The River (and Six Feet Under Land)" just so I could mention how nice the backing bass sounds throughout the album, but especially on this track. Favorite track: Further Down the River (and Six Feet Under Land).

Out of sight, out of mind. Out of sight and mind, down you go. Down, down you go. Ain't no trace, there ain't no trace that you are in this world. You're not in this world. You're not in this world. Too much room, you take up too much room. You try so hard to be small, but not small enough. No, not small enough. The floor is grey, cold and grey, hard and cold and grey. I have no say. I have no say. Marry me with dirt, wood and rocks and dirt, four walls are closing in. Nail down the lid. Nail down the lid. Out of sight, out of mind, out of sight and mind, down you go. Down, down you go.

You are alone in this great big world No matter what they say You are alone in this great big world There’s no room to stay It’s a long walk Many happy returns But you won’t make it back No, you won’t make it back You are alone in this great big world Death will have its say You are alone in this great big world Knock and be sent away You’re on a boat That’s sprung a leak You won’t make it to shore No, you won’t make it back You are alone in this great big world Lost in thick, grey air You are alone in this great big world Just living on a dare Can’t see the sun Can’t see the moon Can’t see the stars No, you won’t make it back You are alone in this great big world No matter what they say You are alone in this great big world There’s no room to stay It’s a long walk Many happy returns But you won’t make it back No, you won’t make it back You are alone in this great big world We are alone together You are alone in this great big world The plumage and the feathers It’s a long flight Soaring in the sky Lost above the trees No, we won’t make it back

Me Oh My 03:36
Wake me in the morning, close my eyes at night (me oh my, me oh my) If you cross me twice, then the buzzards will take flight (me oh my, me oh my) Robin in the morning, whip-poor-will at night (me oh my, me oh my) When the clouds are done a' stormin', the buzzards will take flight (me oh my, me oh my) Coffee in the morning, whiskey late at night (me oh my, me oh my) when the fire is done a' burnin', the buzzards will take flight (me oh my, me oh my) Hazy in the morning, clearer late at night (me oh my, me oh my) when the handshake is broken, the buzzards will take flight (me oh my, me oh my) Wake me in the morning, close my eyes at night (me oh my, me oh my) if you cross me twice, the n the buzzards will take flight (me oh my, me oh my)

After I die, a boat will come for me while standing on the shores of misery but I'm a lucky man, I've got my banjo in my hand to serenade myself into the deep, dark land well climb right aboard and hang on tight The river's rough and mean, and always right but I'm a lucky man, I've got my banjo in my hand to serenade my way into the ancient, cruel night The water's clear and so deadly cold the fish all dance along to the rhythm that takes hold I'm a lucky man, I've got my banjo in my hand further down the river and six feet under land

Sally Ann, If you can Sally Ann come 'round here for my time is coming to an end and I have a task for you, dear Sally Ann Sally Ann if you can Make sure I’m feeling right I don’t want to feel the pain When I slip into the night One drink One, two drinks One, two, three drinks One, two, three, four drinks Then I’ll close my eyes Sally Ann, Sally Ann if you can Pour some whiskey in my cup You can join me if you want But only one of us will wake up Sally Ann, Sally Ann if you can I need a strong and steady pour For I’m afraid of the devil man When he shows me to the door One drink One, two drinks One, two, three drinks One, two, three, four drinks Then I’ll close my eyes Sally Ann, Sally if you can Sally Ann let’s have some fun One last laugh before I pass And my life is done Sally Ann, Sally Ann if you can Don’t let my mouth get dry And leave a smile on my face For when day comes I will die One drink One, two drinks One, two, three drinks One, two, three, four drinks Then I’ll close my eyes

Come on and listen here and heed my advice When the woods they fall silent, you might pay the price No bird will sing its song, no rustling of the leaf You are not welcome here, no matter your belief The trees won’t creak and moan, they hold their breath with fear Or maybe it’s respect for the creatures that are near Your hair stands on end, the exit is your friend Just back away and turn around before they do descend The air is thick and slow, you feel that you must go The more that you do see, well the less that you will know A shot across the bow, one shot is just allowed When the woods fall silent, the shadows are your shroud

A worn-out dollar is full of change A worn-out body’s still full of range A skeletal home, plaster covers bones It’s a back-alley deal you did arrange A worn-out voice is full of words Worn-out seconds are full of thirds At first there is breath, and then there is death And somewhere in between the line is blurred A worn-out banjo’s still full of songs A worn-out action still rights the wrongs The fields are all on fire, an off-key singer in a choir And you are here, right where you belong
