about

In the summer of 1974, Quilt Records mainstay Mrs. Helen Marf approached the record label’s president, Clancy Snarrup, about bringing in some more esoteric, experimental artists to the group. Most of these were friends of Marf’s, including Henri Onirique. Mr. Onirique was a Frenchman who had been living in Big Beaver, Pennsylvania since the late 50s. Basically a hermit, Onirique kept himself busy by tinkering with electronic music and writing letters to Hollywood producers, trying to get his music into the movies. Occasionally, he would send material off to a French label and very small runs of his albums would be made. One of these ended up in Mrs. Helen Marf’s hands and she struck up a relationship via penpal.
“il n’y a pas de vache sur la glace” ended up selling pretty well for Quilt Records, making way for a slew of similar material, with some unique additions to the catalog. The “Music For Training Dogs” disco album was a curious endeavor that came out of this era. Henri Onirique eventually moved back to France in the 80s and was never heard from again.
