about

For the first time, all of piano player Jumbo Puny O’Dainty’s many pseudonyms are in one collection. Due to legal reasons, witness protection programs, and possible illness, our man Jumbo Puny O’Dainty (Born Melvin O’Dainty, Wooly Bully, Nebraska) recorded for 12 different record labels. From 1952 until his death in 1959 due to complications from wounds received during a gig at McGonigle’s Happy Times Pub, Jumbo Puny O’Dainty managed to record an astonishing 76 lps and numerous singles in that short time. The best of these contain fine examples of his spirited, lazy blues walks (which became known in the business as “Puny Trots”. The worst of the are, what one critic called, “…Throwaway, meaningless filler…the kind of songs you would expect to find on an Impish Abundant James LP…”.
